I just started playing AC:R. Bought some credits. Unable to access cards from credits because of server. Do a web search and find out that Ubisoft has basically ROBBED ME because the server is always down, they know it's always down, they don't care that it's always down, and they still took my money, even knowing that I would never be able to access what I payed for.
Given these facts, why should I or anyone trust them enough to get into another of their games?

Given these facts, why should I or anyone trust them enough to get into another of their games? Sorry to hear this. We all feel like this. Up until 1-2 months ago this forum was very alive. Decks where being posted. Cards discussed. Even tournaments organized. Now it is almost dead. The once so loyal players are turning their back on ubisoft due to the connectivity issues. Some of still have hope, but I can't recommend spending any money on this game (or other similar Ubi games), as the lasts months support has been beyond critique. Simple not acceptable. Beyond belief. Especially as some of us - like you - have invested money into it. Other card games you always have the cards to play after a game dies out. Here when servers start to die and they don't seem to care, that money is all but gone. It is not just bad for the players and the game, but all ccg games, as you can't really trust the developers to hone your investment and keep servers for unprofitable games up. Such a shame. There where times when this game was the best in IOS. Unfortunately you are a bit too late. Let's still hope they revive the game and fix the problems. Also because this community is great and people here very helpful. If not this game, something else, but I won't spend money on a Ubi card game with the current state of ACR.

Yes, luri does a great job of summarising. This game was pretty much the best ccg out there, but since the last 2-3 updates the servers are beyond unstable. The success rate for accessing them is around 50%. This is of course making me wonder I'd DOC is worth spending any money on, and I haven't actually done so (beyond a test PayPal purchase to see how the card implementation worked). It's sad, because if games rely on servers to work, then there is a real sense that buying into these games is a disaster, if they go offline.
From a business perspective it makes sense. Why run a server after the initial excitement dies down? For example why does blizzard still run Diablo 2 servers? Or Starcraft 1? They made their money, no more will be made really. From the business side of things there isn't much point in running them, if they shut them down tomorrow a few people would complain, but the vast majority would probably not even notice. I think Ubi realise this. So what if a few hundred people refuse to buy their games? They are better off losing them and not paying staff to maintain anything.
Pretty much only server always on model that works is a monthly sub, that continually funds new versions and development like WOW. Without that, we find ourselves in a financial loss, paying for something that exists for just a short while. It's sad, but that's business.

It's a really sad state of affairs if this continues the way it does, I understand the server situation with money burning down a hole that has gone past the sell-by date, but really I wish there were some kind of more realistic/better/community driven monetisation model that could sustain server use. Or make pure peer-to-peer possible. Or give players the control over servers.
As it is, yeah, I doubt I'll pay for anything else on this principle now - DOC? Meh. Give me real cards, I'll go play with real friends, who don't need a server.
On that note. Played some Thunderstone and Android:Netrunner today. IT WAS FANTASTIC OMG I LOVE THOSE GAMES SO MUCH.

Tu, have you tried warhammer invasion? I have the core set plus the o e expansion that adds the elf decks and it's a lot of fun. Similar control 2 out of three regions as ACR. You can do deck building if you like, but I treat it as a single box game. Quick to set up and play. Will try the multiplayer variant on Tuesday. Worth trying if any of your friends have it. It's a well designed game. Best part is no server issues.

Nope I haven't tried that, a friend of mine is big into all things warhammer so i'll ask him, but he mainly plays the wargame. I've however roped him into playing Netrunner, which is SO INCREDIBLY FRESH I have a penchant for well-designed and elegant games, San Juan is one of them, Netrunner another, ACR... Ah well, too bad so sad. If ever I put out a CCG type game I'll do it on a non-server basis - decentralise the server situation so connections can be pure peer-to-peer so people don't have to connect, and build the game in a set style like a LCG (living card game, the Fantasy Flight concept) so you don't have to go card hunting by booster diving. It's just better for everyone, I think.

RL keeping me busy, so I am back to SE. it's just easier for me, atm.
If i wanna play ACR and DOC seriously, I could, but I don't have the time right now.
I played Spectromancer HD too, but since SE is keeping me busy so I am dropping that as well.
Basically, in SE, the tourney scene is coming up with innovative 'home-brew' formats, i.e. sideboards, limited heroes, no deck/hero lock inbetween games of a bo3, team challenges, Prison/Capture/Rescue team formats, etc.
so yeah, requires less commitment on my part yet fun enough for me.
