This is really annoying, the few times it has happened to me, I did not notice any new cards, but then again I do not really keep track of my cards.

I met this situation yesterday. I bought an assassin pack but couldn't open it because "unable to connect ubisoft server". I restart and couldn't find it in the "Memories", but when I open the "Sequence Manager" I find a Pantheon that I didn't have before. So, I think maybe the pack was opened somehow.

I've bought about 10 assassin packs since the update, and it's happened 4 times... I get that I still get the cards, but it's damn annoying. I sell all my unneeded rares and uncommons, and I have to continually scroll through everything to figure out what I can sell.

This is a simple bug.
Based on reports here's the workflow:
When you buy a pack, the cards are added to your inventory on the server and sent to you as a visual packet.
Upon crashing the app, the visual status gets lost, but upon syncing your app correctly gets cards. Remember application flow - they do everything serverside first, the visual flow get's effed up way too easily because you are on an iPad that thinks linearly, it's too hard after a crash to recreate all of the exact views back to where you were at in the game.
The way to test - record what cards you have open on device 1, buy a bunch of packs - put that device to sleep.
Open a new device, see what cards you have, I bet money that that device shows your new cards and no visual indicator that you have packs to open.
The server has no knowledge of "packs" just what cards you have, the packs are just false objects creating a fun visual experience.
