As mentioned in the "underpowered cards" thread, hereby my take on Merchant Guild... It's still concept, and I have a feeling it can become even stronger (sometimes the buildup can be a bit rough when you have a bad starting hand). A lot of the cards you will be able to just play (probably until today ), because there are not many threats in this deck. They will just let them slip by, until it is too late. Income:5x Holy Day 5x Den Defense 5x The Discovery 5x Funeral Pyre Core:5x Merchant Guild 5x Devoted Scholar 5x Incite Revolt Toolbox:5x Family Heirloom 5x Yerebatan Cistern 3x In-Depth Analysis 2x The Mentor's Return Simple Playbook:- Build up income fast.
- If your opponent plays Order: Try to get at least one Devoted Scholar out before your opponent gets 4/5 income. (Hopefully you already got a look at his hand with Holy day.)
- If you don't have Incite Revolt by now, get it with your Family Heirloom. Otherwise go for the Merchant Guilds.
- Try to play 2 MG's at the same time and start spamming gold!
- Protect your guilds with Yerebatan Cistern
Any suggestions for improvements are appreciated.

Yeah, I remember that one! Do you use 3 In-Depth Analysis cause you're lacking 5 copies of Mentor's Return?

^^ Actually I have thought of taking out the Mentor's Returns, because I really want to be sure to trigger Incite Revolt and not The Mentor's Return when I play The Discovery. But it is a very cool card, which is why I probably have it still in there . Sometimes I want to draw more cards with Devoted Scholar, and then it is nice that I have one in my hand.

Yeah I've wanted to bring back merch guild decks since income is so insanely easy nowadays, and especially with incite revolt/devoted scholar. Whew. Power. Just gotta get the balance between it being a dead end combo deck and defense boredom deck

I lost to it yesterday I think (non counter deck of course). But its not a very fast deck. because I played a deck that cannot interact with the field. And it took you quit long to win. So Id focus on making it faster.

After a little toying around with the merch guild deck I can see that you were right: The Mentor's Return tends to get in the way when targeting Incite Revolt for discard, so 2 TMR seems to be enough. Another idea would be to use Den Defense instead of Funeral Pire => you may loose card advantage but the cheap instant income boost fits the deck quite nicely - especially as an end-game surprise (mind the pun) driving home your victory. >:->

... of course KhaP serves the same purpose but Den Defense is not as risky in early game.

So Id focus on making it faster. Maybee KhaP I remember that game well, because it was a very close call! GG I did make a wrong choice with my first Family Heirloom, which is why it took a bit longer... Sorry I made you wait But you are right, it is not very fast at all. The funny thing is, that once I have 2 Merchant Guilds on the field, it just explodes. Nothing much happens before that. It's a bit similar to the the Ox deck you played, which only really kicks in once you have 10 gold! But I will def. follow Felix' and your advice and try to fit in KhaP. It would speed things up more I guess! @felix Den Defense is already in there. Thanks for your input guys!

Ooops, sorry, of course you already listed Ded Defense. xD Anyway, I'll report back if I learn something useful in future games with the deck

Someone just beat me with a Incognito Merchant guild build, worked pretty well, I guess that would have to be an entirely different build though.

Exactly what I was thinking of I think it allows the combo to be more stable. However any combo deck is at risk these days especially cos counters fly everywhere

Incognito is a good card, I've been experimenting with it in some decks, you can't ignore the income boost either at 2 cost , it can fit in quite well.
Uncloned, do you find your mentors return is used much? I tried it in a few builds and it rarely saw action , is their a reason it's in instead of 2 more in depth for the income boost alone?

... Actually I have taken out both In-Depth Analysis and Mentor's Tutor and replaced them with 4x Ancient Map and 1x Militia Intimidation... Also I have replaced Funeral Pyre with KhaP. I am a bit busy atm, so I haven't had time to really test it enough to post it as an update.
After the input from yesterday I've been looking more critical at this Sequence and I noticed I rarely play/need the extra draw cards. So instead I just focus on faster income and Sequence thinning.
I'm not sure Incognito is right for this Sequence. You won't be shy of income in this Sequence. So instead of playing an extra Merchant Guild (which you can tutor with Family Heirloom) you wait for Incognito to resolve over your Merchant Guild before you can start scoring. I think it is more fragile and slows the strategy down more rather than speed it up...

... Ps. Has anybody seen/played a Leonardo Workshop 2.0 already. I've been thinking of creating an improved version with Ancient Map and The Discovery/Devoted Scholar/Mentor's Tutor combo etc. I think it can also explode faster now!

Funny, I was thinking about Leonardo's Workshop while looking again at your deck...
