So I opened my fourth Lanz and decided to make a deck, that consists of 4 Lanz, 4 of those tutors and a bunch of other standard pieces parts.
Lanz cuts through so many decks like a hot knife through things that melt when cut by a hot knife.
I know there is a lot of discussion about Lanz within certain decks, but I thought I would open a thread just for this guy, and how to fight him.
Lanz has a special, undocumented power: "When you play Lanz, your opponent will panic." With the timed turns of the game, you can't imagine how many mistakes I've made while playing. However I've never seen so many from my opponents (not all of them, of course) as when Lanz comes into play.
So first tip when battling Lanz: Don't panic! Keep your cool.

Lanz is actually quite beatable if he comes into play. A bunch of weenies would stall him really bad since Lanz does not have Fierce.
And when a player is losing board control and he draws a lanz, it's pretty useless since Lanz is a poor blocker.

Yes! And time your blocks to maximize the time Lanz is occupied. If you have enough agents, anticipate the region the crime player is interested in and keep it filled with agents so Lanz is force to campaign elsewhere. If you can time it just so, you might end up with Lanz blocking one of your agents (risky).
Keep your eye on your deck's win conditions too, as you play.

Any suggestions as to when the optimum time is to pump your lanz's out? I tend to try just before the new day starts if the opponent has little cards or no gold. I also try to be really mean and have 3 lanz ready at 13 gold, cast the brilliant burglary and then whop out the 3 lanz. Although I always feel guilty when that comba pulls off :-) 3x 4/4's before they even score

That's a good discussion - should you wait to get to simultaneous Lanz drops or drop them as you can? Situationally you should try and bait out an opponent's untimely ends and whatever before dropping Lanz, but realistically to wait till 13 gold is available (or even 6, 9) almost always means you're playing nothing and the opponent also has that much gold/cards to deal with them.
Or is that first boost to each other worth sacrificing first getting them out for?

i have only been playing with lanz for a couple of days now, typically I find that if I play one at a time they get taken out one at a time, by dumping 2 or even 3 out on the field at once, the most that can get blocked is 2, or 1 if played straight after a brilliant burglary. and once you have more than 1 lanz on the board you can VERY quickly catch up any regions that the opponent happen to have scored. The only drawback to this is a site rush deck, where they seem to fly up to 11 score per region in what seems to be a blink of the eye. at that point I slap a royal decree before running lanz, or get a marganias on the board (most site decks dont have agents to block with). loving the game at the moment

Ringel, no one ever given you credit for that undocumented power, and it was spot on. I've won games i probably should have lost when my opponent has panicked and blocked Lanz when he is ahead on score, and should rather have focused on using his more powerful agents to win before lanz had a chance to ramp up

I agree that Lanz one at a time tends to get taken out pretty easy. I like the idea of dropping in at least 2 within the same amount of time or at least have a safe agent or safe card handy just in case.

It used to be the +1/+1 bonus came when he campaigned, like borgia tower. Now he has to score to get the bonus. Huge difference.
