I wish I could tell you what they did, but it is like as soon as they get both out there, they instantly get 10 in each zone without me seeing any cards played. It has t be something exploitable because more the one perso has done this to me.

Please take more note of this happening, I haven't seen it happen before so can't contribute, but if it's exploitable the devs will need more details... Anything about what was played before would help.

I have a deck based on it. It's not competitive (too vulnerable to counters on the MG // discard), but it can be explosive anyway.
Here is my deck list:
5x Knowledge has a Price 5x Knowledge is Power 5x Forced Inheritance 0x Nothing Ventured, Nothing gained (I'm still thinking about it)
5x Familly Heirloom 3x Quick Study 5x In Depth Analysis
5x Court Order 5x Preemptive Strike (note that the counter part of this deck can be replaced with more drawing power and ressources cards)
5x Lassitude
2x Royal intervention 5x Merchant's Guild
Fun to play it sometimes.

Slaps hand to forehead.
I built my deck before I had any Family Heirloom... and have kept playing it from time to time. I can't believe I haven't added that card to my Merchant's Deck.

Found the thread-I posted earlier today about a game against someone who ran merchant's guild. They received at least 5 points on a merchant guild without playing a card from their hand. My best guess as to what happened is that their engineer's workroom brought in another site that somehow credited the merchant guild with income gain.

I use Engineer's Workroom for exactly that purpose (and to bring in Merchant's in the first place) and it isn't a bug... unless they gained too much?

Thought they may had gained too much but I'm not sure. I understand the tactic, I just don't remember the wording on Merchant's Guild well enough to say whether it should increase gold generation or whether the site should simply replace the workroom. Is it "played" or does it "replace"? If it replaces, should it increase gold generation? Perhaps, in which case it wouldn't be a bug unless it gives too much. If the new site counts as being "played", can you counter it?

You can't counter it. I always figured cards like that increased gold, but maybe they should not? That sounds like a question for the devs.

When you play a site from your hand, when it resolves, it replaces the old site. So there isn't any reason replacing a site with one from your deck should clearly go one way or the other. Replacing it means it resolves immediately... or not.

I know bringing in gimignano does reset all regions to zero score. By that logic income gain and any other resolve effects should happen. I think it's right though, cos the effect effectively does take half a day to resolve just like any other launch. But yes it could be argued either way. We can mention it as a question, though I don't see it as a bug.

I have recently been testing a new deck using these and it has been highly successfull (I'll post deck soon in competitive thread). How I have been winning with them right when I get them out is just by using Knowledge is power x2 or 3 (hold them fom the start) and due to them being surprises I get 9 points in both zones I play my guilds in for 0 cost. It's actually really really effective and virtually unstoppable (unless the guilds get countered. Site destruction cards are too slow to stop the surprise speed of knowledge is power)

Tax Office collector can give you a nice boost with Engineer's workroom.
