If you have 2 heathen followers in hand, play one and activate its ability,
Then at the moment it is about to complete play the on from your hand on top of the one which the ability activates, at that exact moment the card disappears behind the now "resting card" once it finishes resting the played card disappears into the archive.

Did this again. If you have the back of a heathen follower card open, as if you will play the ability, but then move a spare one from your hand onto the top of the open card, then it hides behind it and moves to the archive after half a day.

Yes still happens. Drag an agent over an agent already played with an ability, when you have that agent flipped over.

I've tried to reproduce this with a heathen follower open (and cooling down) and dragging a Benevolent Midwife on top of it. The Heathen follower is discarded and replaced by the Midwife as expected.
In the original post how do you distinguish between the Follower that was just placed and the one that got discarded?
Tempted to close the issue as "not a bug"...
