I think this discussion is actually highlighting one of the best aspects of this game. There is no single killer card that everyone is dying for. There is some general consensus, without uniformity, and the consensus is moving towards income booster/draw cards, of which there are different varieties in every colour. That said, the card I would probably be willing to pay the most for would be ancestral, I don't have a single one, and if I analyze my losses with my favorite deck for a pattern, AD would be it (which is why getting more than one pre-emptive and more than one scientific espionage is 2nd on my list.)

You are right. But I guess it's the cards you don't have that look to be most appealing (much like women).
The good news for you is that I do have a surplus of AD's and Preemptive strikes (expect to see 7 on sale this afternoon), so those should not be too difficult to lay your hands on.
