I am new to the game (just about 2 weeks) and have completed the tutorial. I have bought a couple of Templar packs and was thinking of purchasing a mixed pack. As the mixed pack contains both Templar and Assassin's cards, will I be able to use them both in a deck?

Yes, you can use any combination of Templar and assassin cards in a single deck as long as it doesn't contain more than 2 colours plus gold. That's the only limitation in deck construction besides the 5 of any single card max.
Welcome! Please take a moment to go through the "read this first" post, you will find valuable info there.

Hi, I'm new to card games (I've never played any before): could anyone answer a few noob questions for me?
1: I know that you need two factions plus gold but do the factions have individual themes (such as Templars having generally different style cards to Trade)?
2: Is it better to have Templars or Assasins plus one of the other factions or could you just as easily play Trade and Order? It seems more in keeping with the narrative to have one of Templars or Assassins, though.
3: At the moment I'm having fun randomising my cards and going through campaign and I don't have a feel for the type of deck that I can get on with: are there acknowledge 'deck archetypes' that I should be aware of?
I'm really enjoying the game but I know there is a lot more to it that shuffling my deck and hoping for the best, but I'm a bit in the dark about how to move on from here.
Thanks in advance.

1) Templar and Assassins has nothing to do with deckbuilding - there are only restriction in some cards - for example Ezio Auditore prevents you from playing Templar cards, and some cards can only target Assassin cards. Or only Templar cards. But building a deck you don't have to worry about that. The two expertises refer to the 5 colours. Gold is generic and is unrestricted and doesn't count towards the 2 colours per deck rule. 2) Same as above - you only need to consider Templar/Assassin if you have cards that deal directly with those themes. 3) Browse the competitive decks in the gameplay > decks section. Also browse the Academy subforum for some real good articles. Enjoy the game

Also, even though you're limited to using two color factions (plus Gold) for your deck, you're not obligated to use two colors. If you construct a deck that has all Red, or all Gold, or all Green and Gold (just examples), that's perfectly valid.
In short, the two color limit is just that: a limit; not a requirement.

Is it a case of playing the game until you get to know the cards and periodically buying new cards in the hope of getting better cards?
I've read some of the deck building post but not knowing what the cards posted actually do I'm a bit lost.
Is there an archive of cards and their attributes?
Sorry if this all sound very noobish but I have zero experience with this kind of game.

Thanks, that's just what I need.
One last thing: what are the dominant traits of the specialities (so is trade a good money making speciality, for example?). I've also noticed that cards are marked 'Templar' or 'assassin' (so a speciality has it's cards variably marked as either) is this significant?

They generally fit the flavour of the colour , less so since the expansion but in loose terms, Scholar, better at drawing extra cards, tutoring (searching your deck for specific cards), cunning Crime, good anti agent cards and agents, assassinating, stealing etc, threat. Order, all round the strongest and most of the time cheapest to buy, strong agents, Counters! Official. Media, good support cards, boosting agents power, good anti site, fierce. Faith, strong sites, weaker agents, discard and erase. Gold or trade, all round useful cards, I think designed to support most deck types, some v good sites. Not very informative, and debatable but there's lots of good guides in the academy section though
