Maybe this is working as intended?
If I remember correctly, Ezio Mentor's text reads, "All YOUR cards have SURPRISE" or something like that. But since you "stole" the card, it is technically not your card to begin with.
With the copy, the card that you really own is the copy card, not the 0 cost card you receive after making the copy.
Just my 2 cents.. and hopefully the devs can clarify this.

Copy Altair, new Altair appears in the HQ as surprise
Copy Maria, new Maria has no surprise

You guys are one step ahead. I came to log the bug, and not only is it already logged, it's been fixed as well. The system is working.
