What're the colors that can agent rush? Media, Order, Gold, Crime. Thieves are expensive. (Although my first real Agent deck was Lanz, Cento Occhi, and a couple of Antonio, with Scholar site backup) Media, Order, Gold. Gold really only truly shines with Family Heirloom, which is at about 1500 buying price. (I admit this one is a bit of a stretch.) Media, Order. The first sequence contains plenty of Order, which is also low-cost. I don't know why I don't run into more media rush, actually, but it's probably because new players love militia training/Borgia tower/Edigio Troche super-agents, (why not advanced training?) that easily get owned by sudden exaustion/no rest for the wicked/tactless theatrics/etc. The order leads them to countering, and that's the path to where we are today.
What happened to me was I started on the site route off the first sequence. Faith/Scholar and so forth. Since Faith had Discard instead of Counters, I started making what I now recognize as card advantage decks with Salai. Lots of memory draw and lasting strength, but low initial power.

There are variants that can work. Media militia rush is decent. Order rush w/wo nobles.
But my point is that agent rush is not as powerful for a new player to play in this meta as counters are. That is why more new players turn to counters.

I'm actually feeling much less of the counter madness now, my primary decks right now are: Black/red ezio mentor combo with 8 counters Thief super draw rush Media rush with Altair learned finisher Odai rush I think that's it, and I haven't had much trouble or ran into more than 20% counter heavy decks. Have had many cool tightrope games, in which it really could have one either way - rush against rush, scoring my last 10 with a 10 and 9 on opponents side. I wonder why I haven't ran into as many counter heavy as its sounding like on the forums. It is a lot of work to get all the cards but It's doable. (AND LUCK) I think I have a nice collection myself.

Just out of curiosity, are we leading by example? I'm really not liking the current excessive counter/lock down meta. I don't have any problem with losing, but being shut down so I end the game on zero points is no fun at all.
I do my best to not become the thing I hate. I carry very few counter cards, and even fewer discards. The best games are always those where we gradually work our way to 10 in 2 regions. Sadly this simple gameplay is almost non-existent at the moment.
If you run into me please use a straightforward agro deck. Agents, sites, merchants guild, burn and Leo workshop. All good fun to play against win or loss.

Just today I played against 4-5 counter decks. Added some more people to my counter noob list. Playing was not fun and the inner peace was none existent. I better go meditate to boost my karma...

While I can't say I've completely stopped playing counters, I'm playing very little of it. My main deck has the faith counters, but not the *full* compliment. It beats counters for fun though Ezio Mentor is just too good for that While I don't like a counter-heavy meta, adapting to it is a good thing, it means people will learn from their losses, wondering how the heck their uber counter deck lost. That said, I'm looking forward to the balance update.

I just found this post, and am glad to see that i'm not alone in my frustration with the counter-heavy metagame, and i agree with most of what's been posted.
Permission decks were a slight annoyance in Magic, but the problem seems much more pervasive here. One problem is undercosting, i guess. Another, I suspect, is that in the attempt to avoid copying Magic too closely, the sequence-building rules were set too loosely; i.e., having 5 of each card in a 50 card deck means you will never not get that Suleiman or Court Order consistently and often.
The other problem, already mentioned, is a lack of a better means to match up games. I'm getting tired of playing the same people running the same decks over and over. When it's not counter, it's some other cliche (right now it seems to be Sofia's Office/Ottoman Gunman). Anyway, I don't want to tell other people what to play, but it is a shame that in order for me to play just a fun deck that I enjoy, I have to accept losing in unfun ways, often. Because I refuse to allow the meta to dictate what I NEED to play. In fact, I've taken every counter out of all of my decks, and added Constantinople,GalDist to stem the tide a little (a bit self-righteous, I'll grant you, but at least now I know there are some fellow travelers out there.)

There's no exact date on when the update will come through, we only know that it is done and en route. I guess it's up to Apple's mysterious approval process. And yes they usually update us with a change log.
