www.dropbox.com/s/jus5ixbc62hknrd/IMG_0118.JPGSo this happened last weekend just before the update, its as bad as it looks unfortunately. After a bit of research, ive found out i can replace the digitiser and the LCD screen for around 120-150, but also the metal case appears bent, it wont sit flat on a flat surface. I was wondering if anyone knew if this will self correct when i attach the new parts or if the ipad is basically fubared. i cant afford a new one at the moment so unless ive been a very good boy this year (I havnt) and my understanding other half feels my pain (she doesnt) i may be forced to early retirement.

How did you manage this? You should see if you can bend the metal casing back by hand, carfully since it may short over time if it is left uncorrected. Is the motherboard undamaged?

Obviously don't try bend it back straight with the motherboard inside it, goes without saying.

The motherboard is the most expensive part, so if that works, it can be repaired.

im pretty sure everything else is undamaged, it was blunt force trauma to the front, so im not sure how the back got bent, im thinking that there may have been previous stress on it from when i dropped it ages ago, and when the screen broke the stress was realeased as such? i just dont want to buy the parts and then have them brake again

i took the digitiser off and then realised the lcd was cracked too, it still lit up when i pressed the buttons, just cant find anything about the back. Technically i could replace the back too, but i then its going to end up really expensive plus i have to strip everything out then and put it back.

You could replace the back with a cardboard box, anything. That's not really important, ot is just a housing, just take it all out, bend it somewhat into shape, put it all back. At that stage just the LCD is missing, and you can try a replacement. If the motherboard is damaged, well then that sucks

Sorry to see that man, that sucks I wouldn't try to repair it, it looks terrible... Well what I mean is it looks really extensive, the damage, and people always underjudge the damage (like in a car accident) and end up spending way too much attempting to repair things... And it simply doesn't work out. Know what I mean? But you'll know best. Maybe try get one second hand refurbished? Good luck with it...

Also, I thought I would add, this is slightly out of the remit of the "iPad support section". Just saying.

Actually, now that i cant play anymore, you could open a more general agony aunt style support section, it would give me something to do.

I would still look at repair options. People fix this kind of stuff.

Yep, ive costed it at around 100-150 for parts and i expect a repair would be about 200 including parts. At least if i take the second option then its no risk for me.
IpadMini coming out next week though? I wonder if Ubi have done a version for it?

Is a mini confirmed? Only thing I know that's confirmed is an iPhone 5. I imagine a mini wouldn't use a completely different resolution - probably iPad 2's resolution with retina. Or even iPhone 4S's resolution without retina. Maybe wait for the new stuff to come out, then a new ad 2 will drop price, I still think ipad2's bloody perfect for anything really, especially if 64gb
