I just played my 1st Versus Mode game and I had not the slightest idea what was going on. Things were happening waaaaay too fast for me.
There has to be some kind of online 'university' for this game. E.g. When playing against a 'teacher', he explains:
1) What you should do next. 2) What he's going to do and why. 3) Why your last move was bad, and what you should have done.
I wish...

Don't Worry, the more you play, the more you'll understand. www.hatenintendo.co.uk/acr - all the cards are here. It was very useful to me early in learning the game. When I lost to a certain card, I went to check it up. I also replayed all Tutorials and re-did all the single AI campaigns to learn better.

I'm sure you can also use the forum to understand what happened.
But yes, you are right, online play right now is (most of the time) not easy because most people play the game for some time now and most of them have already experience with similar games. The updates we are planning should help on this as we should have a larger user base with the iPhone version and the matchmaking changes will help for matching people with similar experience of the game.

Have you played through all the many story mode missions?

Wait, hurdler you said changes to matchmaking... Please clear this up for us once and for all - is/was there some kind of active matchmaking going on where it matches you to players with similar decks or cards or something? We thought we were going crazy but often we find ourselves playing mirror matches even if we're playing obscure decks........ And tokyodan... It all comes with some practice. The more you get trounced by an art gallery the less you'll have to double tap it to know its an art gallery. It's really just experience talking... I remember commenting "how the hell do you expect me to remember all these damn Italian card names" when I started playing... And now I do the more you play the more you will be familiar with the cards being thrown around. So just take it easy and take it as learning by playing, whether you win or lose

I only played the tutorials before diving in the deep end of Versus Mode. I mistakenly thought a human would be slower than the AI so I'd have more time to think. WRONG! But I'm sure going to finish all the Story Mode missions in order to learn this game. Thanks for all your help and encouragement. Great community here!
