Any improvements to acr? Is it worth my time trying to play a game, or will I just get frustrated with uplay issues and slow card market and all the other rubbish we have had to endure?

Not sure what your definition is of improvement because I don't know when you last played ACR, but you'll probably be more frustrated with not finding enough opponents rather than uplay issues and card market response time. I'd say the last two are no longer issues (Uplay has been stable for me and card market response time has been fast enough for me).
I remember at the height of ACR's popularity, I could play online any time of the day and I would be paired with an opponent very quickly. Now, you'll have to wait for some time before being paired unless it's a weekend (but that's just my observation and I guess it depends on what time of the day you play).

Rightly so. Enough have abandoned the game that there are hardly any server issues left. The only few remaining are bug-abusers, newbies and me... and (feel free to add to the list)

I think Rob's the only one left of the mods that I still see on top of the seasonal leaderboards - other mods have either moved on to other games or are splitting their time between ACR and other games.

I don't think the uplay/market connection issues are present any longer; I believe they did a server switch a few months back (one of the last things the devs actually communicated to us on the forums about) that fixed those problems by and large. I don't play much any more because I got bored with the competition and the meta. There are only about five to six really competitive types of decks, and you're always subject to come up against bug abusers (such as the Ancestral Discovery abuser that was being remarked on earlier this week). It's stopped being fun.

I wonder if adverts in games make more money than sales.

I haven’t played myself in a couple of weeks because I just got bored and sick of all the abusing decks. It’s really sad because the game mechanics are so good with ACR I can’t even find another card game I like at all. Every time I see the badge icon on the App Store that says I have updates I get a little glimmer of hope that maybe they finally fixed some more bugs, balanced it again or even released a new expansion, just to end up disappointed when I see the game has not been updated. I will pick it up again, and I do check the forums a lot still, but just need a break now.

I just had a few games after months of exile - the DoC servers were offline. Meet some noobs and then the same abuser that recycled ancestral projection and used doomsday as a surprise and animus reboot just like he did 2 months ago. I just quit when he recycled the 2nd one after the doomsday had hit me. What a sad state of the game if people like that are still playing lamoid and abuser decks. I may try again in a few months, but for now, I'll let abusers ruin it for the noobs and themselves. I remember why I made lamoid buster decks, but now I just don't care to play.

Oh, and I also had a sync error and a crash to desktop.
5 games: 2x vs noobs (must have been not so fun to play for them) 1x sync error 1x crash to desktop 1x doomsday and recycling of ancestral projection...
Fun... Really...
Btw, the ELO system in DoC is really good as most games are really balanced skill wise most of the time.

Now... if only I could figure out how to spoof my IP to appear to be from a country that is allowed to play it...

DoC is really growing on me. It has the excitement of a new CCG. ACR is better in many ways, just not fun in the current state. Frustrates me more than fun.
Have you tried the pc version? I wonder if that is ip restricted. Silly they have this restriction really. Maybe they are stress testing to not make another mistake like ACR and making it unplayable for all over a long period.

I forgot how to do that but it's easy, you will find out by googling! join us in DoC
